Fertility Treatment May Be More Affordable Than You Think ...

I am happy to announce that two baby girls were born this autumn, after their mums had a course of fertility treatment with me. The treatment typically involves acupuncture, gentle stimulation and massage of reflex points of the feet and sometimes the support of plant and mineral supplements. Relaxation is a vital part, as well.
The most important question for many is - how much will the treatment cost? Of course, it depends on how long the body needs to be ready to conceive. Most of my lady clients fell pregnant after about 5 to 6 months from the start of the treatment, with one session every 7 to 10 days. Usually, we continue treatment for the first 3 months of pregnancy, some women stay on for longer.
My fee at the moment is £50 per treatment session and I offer a 10% reduction for a course of 10 treatments when paid in advance, that means you get 10 treatments and only pay for nine.
Please feel free to get in touch if you are interested in fertility treatment. I am happy to help.

Painful Hips

Recurring pain in the hips are often a sign of acidaemia (hyperacidity of the blood) caused by certain foods (white flour, white sugar, animal protein, Monosodium Glutamate, stock cubes etc) or by drinking not enough water. Try a few days without these "non-foods" and see if the hips are less painful. Also, the dark shadows around the eyes, the back pain and the constant tiredness, connected to an over-acidity of the blood, are very likely to disappear.

Welcome ...

I would like to welcome two new little ones into this world! After successful fertility treatment, two proud mums have birth to baby girls - lovely C. was born in September and lovely J. in October! I love my job :)

Magnesium Can Help Migraine Sufferers

Migraine can have many causes, but in most cases the magnesium level in the blood of migraine sufferers is far lower than normal, as was found out by researchers at the Medical University in Tabriz/Iran. The magnesium deficiency triggers a constriction of blood vessels in the brain. This constriction increases the sensibility of nerve cells to chemical messengers such as serotonin, thus triggering the migraine attacks.
Foods such as whole grains, green leafy vegetables, legumes and pulses as well as fish are good sources for magnesium.
The recommended daily intake for an adult is around 400 mg.

"Oil Swishing" is good for the gums ...

In Indian Ayurveda, oil swishing, i.e. rinsing the mouth with cold-pressed oils, is used to treat a variety of ailments. Wikipedia describes it as follows: "Oil pulling or oil swishing is a traditional Indian folk remedy that involves swishing oil in the mouth. It is mentioned in the Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita where it is called Kavala Gandoosha or Kavala Graha. Ayurvedic literature describes oil pulling as capable of both improving oral health and treating systemic diseases such as diabetes mellitus or asthma. While scientific evidence is lacking to support any systemic benefits of oil pulling, some studies have suggested that it may reduce oral plaque, halitosis (bad breath) and gingivitis (inflammation of the gum tissue)."
Whereas the treatment of diabetes mellitus or asthma needs to be investigated further, the German Green Cross recommends to treat bleeding gums by slowly swishing 1-2 tablespoons of cold-pressed sunflower oil  around in your mouth for 15 minutes. After that, spit out the oil, rinse your mouth with warm water and then brush your teeth as usual. It is best to do this procedure regularly in the mornings, before breakfast. Doing the whole thing again in the evening, before bedtime, increases the benefits of the treatment. You will notice an improvement of your gum health after 1 to 2 weeks already.

Why Iron Is So Important For Our Wellbeing

The red blood cells store around 66 per cent of our body's own iron supply. Without iron, the red blood cells cannot transport oxygen which is so essential for our wellbeing.
A litre of blood contains 500 mg iron. An iron deficiency can show itself through a multitude of symptoms - depending on the severity of the deficiency.
A slight lack of iron can interfere with the production of blood. The most common symptom is anaemia which shows itself with physical and mental exhaustion (problems with concentration, learning disorders). Other signs can be tiredness and fatigue, listlessness, depression, weak circulation and muscle weakness.
The next step (which is also measurable by lab tests) can manifest itself in problems with nails and teeth (malformation etc), hair loss, but also mouth ulcers and other diseases of the oral mucosa, weak immune system; pale, dry and cracked skin, brittle nails and itchy skin. Restless Leg Syndrome might also be a possible symptom.
Children show a lack of appetite, impaired growth and a weak immune defense against infections. A lack of iron can be the cause of itchy skin.
Severe lack of iron can cause soreness of the corners of the mouth, difficulties with swallowing, burning tongue, brittle hair and nails; the tongue and the mucous membranes in the mouth and the intestines cannot absorb nutrients properly. Young children with a severe iron deficiency show unusual behaviour such as eating soil or ice cubes.
Our daily intake of iron should be 10 mg for men and 15 mg for women. During pregnancy, the daily dosage should be 30 mg, and mothers who breastfeed need 20 mg.
Women lose about 12 mg during the days of menstruation which explains an increased demand of iron.
Patients who cannot absorb iron from food properly have an increased demand, among them are people who have a low level of stomach acid or suffer from frequent bleeding in the digestive system, i.e. stomach ulcers, Colitis Ulcerosa or Morbus Crohn (Crohn's disease). Infections, suffering from tumors, after an operation or the consumption of antibiotics or antacids (meds for heart burn etc) can cause an iron deficiency, as well.

Another Reason to Kick the Habit

Smoking is bad for the prostate gland. In the USA, a long-term study was carried out with 5400 employees of the public health sector over a period of 22 years. During the time of the study, 1630 of the researched persons died, a third of them from prostate cancer. Men who smoked carried a higher risk to die from prostate cancer or to suffer a relapse by 61 per cent, the magazine "Medical Tribune" reports. Very heavy smokers had an even higher risk of dying from prostate cancer by 82 per cent.
There are ways to help you stop smoking - hypnotherapy and acupuncture have proven helpful in most cases.
I offer a free assessment and info session if you would like to discuss treatment options. Please contact groveclinicoxon@gmail.com for an appointment.

There is always a way out ...

I found this lovely poem on the internet and would like to share it with you.

"There is always a way out:
Sometimes you have to end something
to be able to start something new.
Sometimes you have to demolish something
to be able to build something new.

Sometimes you have to let go of something
to receive something new.
There is always a way.
I can't, I don't want to.
I can't carry on like this.
It is possible, I can, I want to -
because I have tried.

Do you feel stuck?

Times are hard for many of us. We may have lost faith in our lives and feel that life has given us a load too heavy for us to carry. There are certain techniques, like Emotional Freedom Technique or Psychological Kinesiology which can help us getting out of the fog and to see the light at the end of the tunnel again. I am planning to do a workshop for a group of people in my premises in Grove nr. Wantage in Oxfordshire, sometime this autumn. If you are interested, please let me know and we try to get a group together.

"Letting Go"

Somebody posted this wonderful poem on a German facebook page the other day. Unfortunately, I didn''t get their name, but I took the freedom to translate it to be able to share it with my English-speaking friends.

"Letting Go
Sooner or later you’ll get to a point when you realize that you don’t need to struggle anymore, because it won’t take you any further.
You understand that there is nothing more you can or must do.
You can’t force anything; if you understand that, at first everything will collapse back upon itself, and then there is silence.
And then, suddenly, there will be lightness and quiet within you.
You begin to let go of everything you were holding on to, of hopes, people, things from your past, which you didn’t want to, or couldn’t accept the way they were.
You understand that you can’t change it any more, no matter how much you believe in it, no matter how much you wish for it to happen. No matter how much you fight for it. No matter how much it hurts.
What must be, will be. Whatever wants to happen, will happen. What is supposed to be with you will stay or will go of its own free will.
Sooner or later the pain and fear of letting go will be over.
This is when you will gradually liberate yourself from fears, feelings of guilt and constraints – from everything that holds YOU back.
And you go your way; you pack your suitcase with what’s left: a suitcase full of experience, insight and memories.
Your path lies ahead, you don’t see it yet, but you feel the time has come.
You start again – with the first step!"

COLOUR ENERGY – No Life Without Light

We, the average modern human, spend an average of approximately 85 per cent of our lives in “sun-blocked” rooms, shut away from daylight. As we gain the majority of our life energy from sun light with its different colours, many people feel a certain lack of energy, mainly in the dark and gloomy winter months.
We all know the influence of colours in our lives – the uplifting yellow of a field of sunflowers, the calming green of the meadows in spring, we see “red” when we are angry and we see through “pink glasses” when we are in love.
Many therapists all over the world have been using colour therapy for thousands of years, knowing that body and mind react to colours in certain ways, the influence of light on hormones and metabolism. In ancient China, acupuncture and colour healing were closely related. Their Wise Men used light and colours as part of their healing methods, and so did their colleagues in ancient Greece and Persia.
Modern researchers found that certain cells in our bodies have so-called colour receptors and react on the influence of colours. The more so, as our sense of vision is directly connected with the autonomous nervous system. Colour therapy can have a healing effect on different physical problems and mental disharmonies.
A modern way to bring more light into our lives is to wear colour therapy glasses. The glasses are available in seven colours, derived from the spectrum of a rainbow, plus the colours Indigo and Magenta.
Patients who have already tried them can tell about the balancing effect of blue whenever they are angry or yellow when they are sad. Students praise the effect of orange during hard times of study, and even sufferers from allergies and hay fever could find relieve with turquoise. Those who suffer from dyslexia showed a substantial improvement when they wear the suitable “therapeutic colour” during daily reading exercises.
To combine the useful with the practical, wear the glasses during all your outdoor activities, sport, walking the dog etc. (USE ONLY “YELLOW” FOR DRIVING!)

Healing Fungae

Mycotherapy (therapy using medicinal mushrooms) is becoming more and more popular in naturopathy. Using certain mushrooms has proven beneficial in treating numerous illnesses. They are commonly used to strengthen the immune system, to lower high blood pressure, to treat metabolic imbalances, to help with allergies or digestive problems, and in particular in the complementary treatment of cancer. Scientists in Germany have confirmed the healing and preventative properties of certain mushrooms. We all might have heard of Shiitake, Reishi, Champignons, Oyster Mushrooms and Mu-Err.
The somewhat weird-looking Cordyceps (cordyceps sinensis) which has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries, for example, has proven helpful in the treatment of Chronic Fatigue, depression, exhaustion, lack of libido and infertility. Also, it can help to lower blood pressure and "bad" cholesterol. There are no known side-effects (asthma sufferers please talk to their GP before taking Cordyceps as it has a relaxing effect on the muscles of the respiratory system).

Another mushroom worth highlighting is Agaricus (agaricus blazei murril). Scientists called it the "Miracle Mushroom for cancer sufferers". It contains vitamins B6 and B12 as well the the highest level of beta-glucan among all medicinal mushrooms. Therefore, plus due to its content of certain substances which have proven beneficial in the treatment of some forms of cancer, it is widely used in alternative cancer therapy and to support the immune system. Further uses are for depression and burn-out. Furthermore, it helps the regeneration of bone marrow and the production of blood.

The Risk of "Light" Products

Switching from soft drinks containing sugar to drinks sweetened with aspartame can be a bad choice, especially for diabetes sufferers. The brain cannot differentiate between sugar and artificial sweeteners, and therefore activates the same mechanisms: increasing the blood sugar level, thereby causing the pancreas to secrete more insulin. The more "light" soft drinks we consume, the more insulin will be secreted. This can eventually lead to disaster. i.e. insulin resistance and ultimately to diabetes type II. What is worrying is that "light" drinks appear to be even more unhealthy than drinks containing sugar, as a recently published study by the French research institute for medicine INSERM reveals. The medical history data of more than 66,000 women were analysed by the scientists, with regard to their dietary habits. The result: The risk of developling diabetes in women who consumed half a litre of "light" soft drinks per week was increased by 15 per cent. In those who drank one and a half litres per week, the rate of increase was a whopping 59 per cent!

Simply Smile Away Stress

"Turn a smile into an exercise. Breathe in  and simply smile - your tension will disappear and you will feel considerably better," is the recommendation of Thich Nhat Hanh, the famous Vietnamese monk and life coach. A recent study carried out by psychologists confirms that his "mouth yoga" can indeed help to keep your calm in stress situations. "Tensing certain muscles to form a smile can be sufficient to lower the heart rate during and after a short-term stress situation," says Dr. N. Smetak, national chairman of registered cardiologists in Germany. His advice: Give it a try when you are caught in a traffic jam next time :)

"To Be Strong And Weak"

"To be strong and weak,
both need space,
both belong to you.

Who chooses to be only strong
will never experience
how uplifting it is
to be comforted by the closeness
of a friend,
to be held by reliable words.

Who chooses to be only weak
will never experience
how invigorating it is
to be carried by their own feet,
to find trust
in their own strength."

A New Mother's Testimonial

"I first heard of Monika Becker from my friend who had previously gone to Monika for the same reason; to help us get pregnant and keep the baby full term.  My first, a son was conceived the very first month we started trying to get pregnant, had a wonderful pregnancy and labour was perfect.  However, when I wanted to started trying for the second baby, about a year and a half later, it was a different story.  It took three years and three miscarriages (I would lose the baby in the 9th or 10th week), with lots of emotional, physical and marital stress, pain and difficulty.  That is why through speaking with my friend after my second miscarriage that she recommended me to Monika Becker.
I went to Monika soon after my second miscarriage in the beginning of 2011.  I was going once a week for an hour for about three months when I got pregnant.  I could not believe it happened so fast.  I prepared myself for it taking up to six months before I fell pregnant again.  Now the challenge was to keep the baby.  So until I reached the first trimester, every day and every week was journey of waiting, hoping, praying, trying to relax, thinking positive and coming to Monika for an hour of pure relaxation, luxury, pampering, and therapy (she is a great listener).   So while I got acupuncture I was also getting my feet massaged – reflexology, which made you forget completely about the needles she has just poked your body with, which must make you look like a pin cushion.  Plus she has soft relaxing music and incense going on in the background all setting the atmosphere of complete and utter peace, relaxation, harmony, rest and tranquillity.
I continued going to Monika up to about the 20th week, once I was quite sure this baby was here to stay.  I did return to see her at 34 weeks and 36 weeks, because my baby was breached I was hoping Monika could do something to help her move head down and of course engage.  Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.  A planned caesarean was scheduled for me on Tuesday, 20 March.  However, my waters broke the night before and I had to have an emergency caesarean at the John Radcliffe Hospital.  My baby girl, Athena Conception, entered the world on Monday, 19th March.  She is now 10 months, a beautiful, smiley, happy, strong, energetic and noisy baby girl.  We are all looking forward to her 1st birthday, especially her big brother who adores her.  Thank you Monika for helping me achieve one of my life’s dream; to have at least two happy and healthy children – one boy and one girl.
I am going to take Athena to see Monika, because since she was breach when born Athena’s ball and socket has not developed properly.  In the future, I will continue to seek Monika’s treatments for I truly believe in her; besides the fact that she is kind, gentle, companionate, and a lovely lady."
Thank you, lovely D. XXX
