Thought for Today

"Happiness is as a butterfly which, when pursued, is always just beyond our grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you." (Nathaniel Hawthorne 1804 - 1864)

Stop Smoking – feel better!

Did you know that tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 constituents which are more or less likely to cause cancer? In the list of ingredients you will find, apart from nicotine which is a potent neurotoxin and often used in pesticides: benzene (which is added to petrol), formaldehyde (which is an embalming fluid), ammonia (you also can clean your windows with) and acetone (used to remove nail enamel)! We all know the effects smoking can have on our health and wellbeing. Another negative side effect nowadays is standing outside, whatever the weather, very often exposed to the elements!
If you wish to “kick the habit“ and not “the bucket“, try alternative options such as hypnotherapy or acupuncture, or a combination of both. Very often, only one session of acupuncture can keep you away from the fags. During the session, small patches with tiny pins will be applied in one ear, which stay there for several days (3 to 14 days) and trigger an impulse on certain acupuncture points to suppress the cravings.
It is also important for a successful treatment to boost your immune system. Vitamin C, lots of leafy greens in your daily diet and Magnesium can give you the needed support. The herbal remedy Avena Sativa (e.g. by Dr. Vogel) which is made from oats can also be of great help. Oats have a positive effect on a wide range of nervous conditions. They are mildly antidepressant, gently raising energy levels and supporting an over-stressed nervous system – very often a problem when trying to give up the habit of smoking!

HORUS Flower Essence Impatiens (impatiens noli-tangere)

This essence can help people who suffer from an inferiority complex to recognise their own value, and also to accept praise. Humans who find it hard to trust others and sense an attack in everything will benefit from this essence, learn to trust and to have faith, and to give up their fear of closeness or intimacy. Impatiens can help the expecting mother to find her body beautiful in spite of "everything", to accept her child and to lose any existing pessimism and anxiety about the future. This essence is of great support and gives clarity if a pregnant woman is not sure whether to keep the baby or not, and also does not want to have sex during or after the pregnancy.

Guidance from Eileen Caddy

"Let there be no spiritual pride within you, only purest love and true humility, for love and humility illuminate the heart and reveal the way, the truth and the life. I AM the way, the truth and the life. Draw nearer, ever nearer, and become what I AM so there is no longer any separateness in you. I in you and you in Me and we as One. Love prepares the way, Light reveals the way and Wisdom guides you along the way."

HORUS Essence ROSEMARY (rosmarinus officinalis)

Whenever we feel unconfident and therefore just want to run away from a conflict, Rosemary can help us to keep calm and to face the situation. This essence is also beneficial for people who tend to retreat into their shells at the slightest problem. On a physical level, this tendency to wanting to run away very often manifests in circulatory disorders (cold hands and feet). During pregnancy, Rosemary can help if the woman is feeling plump and clumsy, suffers from poor circulation, feels dizzy, exhausted and tired, and has the feeling that she has no energy left for the baby. During long and difficult birth, this essence can give stamina; if the newborn baby has breathing problems - this essence is worth a try.

HORUS Essence QUINCE (cydonia oblongata)

Quince can show us the way out of the extreme polarities which we often find ourselves trapped in. We learn to stop thinking in opposites, and to find the balance - the synthesis. Therefore, this essence is a great support for men, for example, who are afraid of showing any weakness because they think it is un-manly. Women who cannot decide if they want a baby or a career can find - with the help of Quince - that there is not only an either/or, but also an as-well-as, and that what seems to be opposites can be combined harmoniously.

Yoghurt for a Healthy Gut

Specific bacteria - the so-called probiotics - support our natural intestinal flora. They optimise digestion and speed up the passage through the gut. They can help a poorly gut flora to regenerate and to rejuvenate. Such helpful bacteria can be found in natural yoghurt and yoghurt with added probiotic bacteria.
Research has shown that - after eating probiotics - more immuno-competent cells can be found in the body. Probiotic yoghurt contains such a high number of these bacteria so that many of them can survive the stomach's acidic environment. To ensure a sufficient supply to re-build the gut flora, you have to eat probiotic yoghurt every day and for a longer period of time - approx for 4 weeks.
Natural yoghurt, cottage cheese and quark are doing the same job, but cost less. Also high-fibre vegetables, pulses and legumes as well as whole grains will help the gut.
If the intestinal flora has been seriously damaged - e.g. after taking antibiotics - eating these products will not be enough. In this case, you should get high strength probiotic remedies (health food stores) and take them for 4 weeks. A good supplement should contain a daily dose of 10 billion probiotic lacto- or bifidobacteria. This equals the bacteria contents of approx 50 yoghurts. Experts are of the opinion that the reconstruction of intestinal bacteria after having finished taking antibiotics is a must. However, conventional medicine rarely takes this into consideration.

Did you know...

...that suppressed and unresolved anger can be the cause for depression, feeling low and migraines? To get to the cause of the problem, psychological kinesiology can be the solution.
